okay so let's be honest... (part X)

We tend to teach Jesus out of fear
And Jesus never intended that to happen

So I say "follow Jesus, and if you follow what He said to do, you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free"

We tend to talk about Jesus
But we never actually take what He said seriously
Hardly do we ever take what He said literally

If you take it literally, you will know the truth and the truth will set you free

We're not all gonna do everything right all the time
We're all failures already
Don't be afraid to fail
But don't be afraid to risk failure
When you are finally ready to risk failure, then you can truly know what it means to be fully alive

Jesus said "if you hold to my teaching you will know the truth and the truth will set you free"
He said it and He wasn't kidding
He said it and He meant it
So I challenge you to take what He said seriously
To take it literally
We're all in it together
So I say "it will set us free, free to really live, free to be human, to experience being”

preach it, brotha!

yeah, i totally agree. people sure like to sugarcoat the Bible's message - Jesus' message. if we don't like what it says, we simply assume that "the original text didn't really mean it that way" or "well, they didn't literally mean..."

because, to actually do what it says means giving up a WHOLE lot of comfort.

I think that in a lot of ways Jesus' actual message would wreck a lot of what the present day church is about. idk... it's easy to hate on the evangelical movement. but Jesus simply isn't about health and wealth and bigger buildings. I think He would cringe and what is being said and done in His name. I know i do.

If you look as Jesus' ministry in the gospels you see that He was always on the move... it wasn't about bringing people to Him... It was about bringing Him to the people... Sure there were crowds who came to see him... But Jesus wasn't in 1 central location... He was always on the move... and i think people get caught up in the idea that church is a building and that Jesus only works within the confines of brick and wood. but the church is the people. We are the ones Jesus is in. And i think once the "church" realizes that, we will move towards an external focus as opposed to an internal focus. and in someway we already are moving in that direction... or at least some are...
