okay so let's be honest... (part IV)

Brennan Manning once wrote “The greatest single cause of atheism in the world today is Christians, who acknowledge Jesus with their lips and walk out the door, and deny Him by their lifestyle.”

Manning later went on to ask, “When will Christians be honest enough to admit that they don't really believe in Jesus?"

Read that again…
“When will Christians be honest enough to admit that they don't really believe in Jesus?"

I say "follow Jesus"
You say "How? He's not here… I don't even see Him."

We believe in “Jesus” as an idea.
But we hardly ever believe in Him as an actual person.
If we believed that Jesus was a real person then maybe we wouldn’t try to bend Him to fit our own personal agendas.

We get this picture of Jesus, that He's tame and that we can manipulate Him.
But He's not.

We think He’s a white middle-class republican.
But Jesus is not a white middle-class republican.
Sorry to break it to you.

We sort of put Him in a box because He might not fit in with us.
That's not right.
We think that going to church makes us a Christian.
But really it's what we do outside of church that makes us a Christian.
We think it's all about playing it safe.
But Jesus isn't safe.
