the chronicles on narnia: the pleasure, the pain and the review

just to let you know, there are no big spoilers in this post. feel free to read ahead.

i just returned from my midnight viewing of "the chronicles of narnia: the lion, the witch and the wardrobe". please forgive me for my, ummm lack of making sense/usage of correct english... (it is past 4:45am) i drudged myself out in the 13 degree temperature and 6-8 inches of snow to see this movie. first of all let me say, I love, Love, LOVE the chronicles of narnia, by C.S. Lewis. I love the books, the story, everything. This movie was not C.S. Lewis' book. These were not his words. However, it was his story. Most of the great quotes from the book were altered in some fashion. Some were left out altogether, some came from different mouths, in different places in the story. It was different. A lot of story was added and a lot was taken away. But it had the same basic story, and basic message. The "christian" message was still there (and in my point of view even added to a little). But also, keep in mind, Lewis himself said that this was not meant to be a direct representation of... well, you know. it's not allegorical. it's not meant as allegory (yeah i know big word, meaning an expressive style that uses fictional characters and events to describe some subject by suggestive resemblances; an extended metaphor. www.dictionary.com) For those of you that are fans of the books, and plan to see the movie. don't go in expecting a full word for word adaptation of C.S. Lewis' book. Go into it expecting an adaptation of the story.

with that said...

i was surprised at how well the kids were cast. by the end of the movie, i believed in them. i can't imagine anyone else being those kids. they were who they were. lucy was amazing. the professor rocked (although i wish his lines were more like the written word. holla at ya boy, Digory!!!!). And finally, the battle was epic (to say the least). I can safely say that there will be a (crossing fingers) sequel. I love this movie. But I LOVE the book. I suggest, that you see the movie, and if you like it, read the book because you will love it.

Further In.
