I LOVE GLEN HANSARD & MARKETA IRGLOVA (even though they make me cry)

so i just managed to get my hands on the Glen Hansard & Marketa Irglova CD. The CD is titled "The Swell Season"... and honestly this album is the BEST RECORD I've heard this year.

There are very few artists that make me cry simply because of the instruments and melody alone... Sure a good set of lyrics here or there can tug at your heartstrings and make you shed a tear, but when music and melody alone make you weep, something breath-takingly beautiful has taken place. Not to say that the words aren't something wonderful. If anything, the lyrics may surpass the music in sheer artistry alone. they are amazing and leave me wishing I had the capability to write such well-crafted words. The music is extremely intricate yet some how it gives you the warmth of something simple without being distracting from the well-crafted lyrical framework. If you let this record soak into the very marrow of your being (As you should) you will hear a fascinatingly elegant masterpiece. It amazes me that no one knows these people.

Glen Hansard's voice is like honey to my ear canal. He sings with such raw emotion that if I close my eyes tight enough I can picture his facial expressions. Irglova's hauntingly sweet backing vocals and piano make this record all the more magical.

4 out of 10 songs from this CD are alternate versions from their indie film "once", that I have been heavily promoting for some time. I would venture to say that I enjoy these versions better, however I will continue to listen to both versions...

I am comparing this record's brilliance to that of Brian Wilson's Smile and The Format's Dog Problems...

There... it has been said...
