So here is a list of my top 10 favorite shows that I will be watching this fall/winter. This list will surely change as the season goes on. Please note that all reality shows and "new" shows have been omitted from the list. But so far the best pilots i've seen for new shows are Chuck on NBC and Kid Nation on CBS.
10. Sarah Silverman Program
This show is so irreverent, offensive and ridiculous. But I can't help but love the quirkiness and raw honesty of Silverman. Plus she's dating Jimmy Kimmel, who happens to be my favorite late night talk show host.
2nd season starts October 3rd on Comedy Central
9. 30 Rock
I started watching this show when Tina Fey of Saturday Night Live left SNL for a primetime show. Tracy Morgan (also of SNL) is brilliantly/stupidly hilarious. Alec Baldwin is actually pretty funny as well.
2nd season starts October 4th on NBC
8. Saturday Night Live
SNL is one of those shows that never gets any credit in the here and now. It's always "it's was funnier when so-and-so was on. People say it was more funny when Will Ferrell was on. Well when Will Ferrell was on people said that the show was more funny when Sandler, Farley, and Spade were on. When Sandler and Gang were on people said that the show was better when Dana Carvey and Mike Myers were on… and so it goes all the way back to Belushi, Chase, and Aykroyd. Amy Poehler (who happens to be married to Will Arnett, aka Gob Bluth of Arrested Development) and Kristen Wiig are probably 2 of the funniest female cast members ever. Jason Sudeikis is my favorite current male cast member. Bill Hader, Andy Samberg, and Will Forte are brilliant too! They just need to can Kenan Thompson. He's simply not funny and downright hard to watch.
The new season starts this Saturday September 29th on NBC
7. Battlestar Galactica
This show has won Emmy, Peabody, Hugo, and Saturn Awards but quite possibly the highest honor this show was received is that it is Dwight Schrute's favorite television show. I really have no justification for liking this show other than I am a major geek.
4th season starts January 2008 on SCIFI
6. Stargate: Atlantis
I love stargate. I've seen the movie, all 214 episodes on the now canceled SG-1 series and I anxiously await the 2 SG-1 direct to DVD films. I have seen all 60 of this spin-off and I am intrigued by the idea of Samantha Carter of SG-1 taking over Atlantis.
4th season starts this Friday September 28th of SCIFI
5. How I Met Your Mother
HIMYM is a classic sitcom in the vein of Friends and Seinfeld. It's about "ordinary" people and their friends. Neil Patrick Harris (of Doogie Howser fame) is by far the most entertaining character on the show. You gotta love a show with guest stars like Mandy Moore and Bob Barker.
3rd season started last Monday on CBS
4. Prison Break
It's fast-paced and extremely well-written. Each episode ends with a cliff-hanger that always leaves you wanting the next episode.
3rd season started last Monday on FOX
3. Lost
If you haven't heard of Lost you must live under a rock. Last season's finale was emotional and showed a lot of promise with it's "Flash-Ahead". Will the "flash ahead" be an ongoing staple for the series? Is Charlie really dead? Michael is coming back? What about the new characters coming up? With the knowledge of the end date for the series will the writer's really start to flesh out the series? Will Locke continue to be a thorn in my flesh? AHHHH the questions!
4th season starts February 2008 on ABC.
2. Heroes
Oh sweet, sweet Heroes. Well-written. This show was practically written for me. There is soooo much going on. It's a show that you can speculate a lot about. It's a nerd's dream. Big-budget, intricate story lines, movie-quality Sci-fi on a weekly basis.
2nd season started last Monday on NBC
1. The Office
AHHHHHHHH!!! I'm gonna go ahead and call this my favorite sitcom of all time. It's continually hilarious. It's so quotable! This season they are permanently adding Ed Helm's "Andy" to the cast. He was my favorite of the additions last season. His relationships with Dwight and Michael amuse me to no end. I desperately want him to sing some more Willy Wonka songs with the words changed! Will Pam and Jim finally hook up? Will we catch another performance of Scrantonicity? This season is the biggest season yet with 30 half hour segments. 10 of which will be combined into 5 one-hour specials. AHHHH the gloriousness.
4th season starts tomorrow (Thursday September 27th) on NBC
Are there any shows missing that you are surprised of?
