After giving what many of His followers call a "hard teaching", Jesus overheard them "grumbling" about it. And from what I gather, Jesus asks them (in my opinion) quite sarcastically,
"Does this offend you?"
~Jesus
Because of this "hard teaching" many of His followers quit following.
I believe that each generation, and each culture has their own set of "hard teachings". You know, offensive things about following Jesus that make you kinda cringe because you know it will make you change the comfort in which you live your life. But why doesn't this happen anymore? Obviously you have people who leave the church, for one reason or another, but it's usually over hurt feelings, some traumatic event that makes them question God, a (valid or invalid) conviction that things aren't the way they should be or they just fall out of love with God. But it's hardly ever a large group of people leaving because following Jesus is too difficult. Which makes me wonder, are the "hard teachings" being taught?
