In God We Trust... Track 09 of 11

In God We Trust
Derek Webb

In God we trust
And the government is on His shoulders
In God we trust
Through democracy and tyranny alike
In God we trust
He uses both good and evil men

In God we trust
So we fight for peace and He fights for us
In God we trust
Even when He fights us for someone else
In God we trust
Even when He looks like the enemy

In God we trust
Even though our hearts are bankrupt
In God we trust
For more than just the value of our dollar bills
In God we trust
But there..s no gold behind these notes of reserve

In God we trust
Even through our great presumption
In God we trust
Even though He favors no nation-state
In God we trust
Even when the blessing is a curse

Do you trust God? He has the markings of an untrustworthy being. I mean, He lets His people wander in deserts, rot in jail, be crucified upside down, and get beheaded.

It..s hard to really trust someone who is so unsafe. Following Jesus really isn..t safe. I am becoming more and more aware of that as time passes by. The real Jesus is really, really, really offensive. He loves the unlovable. He does the undesirable. I..ve done and said a few things recently that have gained me a lot of flack because it may be appropriate in pop Christian circles. But we Christians tend to paint ourselves into corners with all of our rules and regulations and that simply isn..t what Jesus is all about. Christ was about freedom, not slavery. Following Jesus really is a dangerous business. People want things to be safe. They don..t like people who cause chaos. And that..s what Jesus did. He turned the world upside down, and Christians came along and sell Him like a self help book. And it..s bull crap (I..m thinking of another word for crap). Jesus isn..t a product. And it infuriates me that my brothers and sisters sell Him out like that. Jesus is rough and so is following Him. Really following Him will get you in trouble. People will look at you strangely and judge you by the unruly company you keep. I..m tired of hanging out with people like me. I wanna hang out with people that I..ll get a reputation for hanging out with. I want a bad reputation.

Jesus.. way is better than the way you are living. Don..t believe most Christians. I..m warning you. Don..t settle for the Jesus product. Go for the real thing. It..s so worth it. Take a risk.

C.S. Lewis said it best when he wrote ..He isn't safe, but He's good. He's the King I tell you...

I don't know if this had anything to do with the song, but this is what came out of it. haha.

p.s. the federal reserve is a scam.
