the hunt for red october

what's the deal with cars these day? in sunday school we were asked "If Jesus was a part of your car, what would he be?" some answers were steering wheel, tires, fuel, back seat driver, etc... my answer came for a history of trailing stuff on the back of our vehicle... boats mainly... I asked "you know how when you have a trailer on the back of your boat? and that trailer is held on to the car by a trailer hitch? and the trailer hitch is held on to the car by a pin." I said, "Jesus is my faulty pin. Everytime i am carrying a large burden he takes the heavy load off..."

so, it's been a while since i have posted on here anything of substance... life has indeed been crazy. yesterday i spent most of the day shopping ironically for a new car with my parents... it has been called "the hunt for the red suv that my parents will die with". aka, "the hunt for red october" (a reference to a movie i saw when i was younger and was so bored I got my arm stuck in the cup holder) it's really kind of odd... my parents are searching for a car that they want to last until they die... with this search they are looking for particular things that the suv MUST have... it MUST be able to pull a boat, it MUST ride comfortably, it MUST have 5 or more seats, it MUST have heated seats... so on and so forth... i have been driving around with them looking for this spectacular super vehicle... giving insight here and there, but yesterday i realized that this is their car... This car will be the culmination of decades of hard work, 5 kids, many "foster kids", 5 grandkids, and decades of service in general... This is what my Dad has been wanting for years... My parents have had some crappy cars in the past, and that was a result of having sacrificed a lot for their kids, for their family..

When i think about life as a car i look at my life i can't help but think i am a beat up, rusty, ol, el camino with a faulty pin. hopefully one day i will find my red october...

grow where you are.
